Diabetes Awareness Month, Day 8

This month JDRF is running T1D Looks Like Me campaign. There are many misconceptions about all people with diabetes, and especially about T1Ds. “But she is so young/not fat/looks so healthy” are comments we hear quite often. Beyond confusion about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, there is a lack of understanding in our society about invisible illnesses. T1D is hard to see, and even harder to see is the day-to-day 24/7 effort that goes into managing it. Behind an invisible disease there are real people and real lives. A fellow D-mom Meri recently wrote an eloquent and moving post about it. Please read it.

“Some diseases are invisible. But the effects on people’s lives are anything but.”
